Space Grant Land Grant: Geospatial Extension

Professor Holding Rocket and Pitchfork The Rocky Mountain NASA Space Grant Consortium organized a pilot Geospatial Extension Program for under the partnershipping initiative of NASA Space Grant with USDA Land Grant.

On 1 Oct 99, the Rocky Mountain NASA Space Grant Consortium implemented an initiative to successfully establish a pilot Space-Grant and Land-Grant partnershipping thrust, involving Utah State University of Agriculture and Applied Science, NASA and DOA. This pilot effort led by Dr. V. Philip Rasmussen was emulated with parallel Geospatial Extension Specialist thrusts in other states. Professor Rasmussen, with the foundation of Space Grant and Utah Extension Service, and NASA's first Geospatial Extension Specialist, has continued and matured this program with the able assistance of Dennis Wright and Douglas Ramsey.

Coordination with the other pilot programs, with the nation-wide Space Grant Directors, and with NASA HQ and Stennis Space Center, and with the Extension Agents in each County is being sustained with the theme of Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS, and Image Data Communications applied to both agriculture and natural resources.
