BYU USIP Project: Passive Inspection Cubesat (PICS) Launching into Orbit

Utah received two USIP grants and one of them is about to launch in the upcoming month. The project, Passive Inspection Cubesat (PICS) under Dr. David Long at Brigham Young University, has been sent to NASA for the pre-launch integration and proves to be an exciting and successful mission. A group of students at Brigham Young University are anxious to watch their launch from home due to being unable to attend the launch in-person due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and health guidelines. This cubesat is designed to take 360-degree images of NASA’s spacecraft and check for possible damage that otherwise cannot be seen. The camera can be used to take other images of anything in space. Congratulations to Dr. Long and the BYU student team!

WE ARE NASA SPACE GRANT~~I AM UTAH NASA SPACE GRANT videos

Before every major successful NASA mission, there was a key educational program designed to engage the public and to train the next generation of NASA Scientists and Engineers. For the past 30 years, NASA Space Grant has been that program. Space Grant is NASA in every state, and is how most students have the opportunity to work on NASA-related programs.
